Israeli film “Eli and Ben” shown in Hong Kong

The Consul General of Israel in Hong Kong and Macau Mr. Amikam Levy hosted the screening of Israeli film “Eli and Ben” on 21 January 2010 at the Hong Kong Arts Centre.

“In the framework of our activities in Hong Kong exploring the film industry in Israel is one of our main goals”, said Mr. Levy in his opening remarks.

Israel’s film industry is gaining increasing international respect for the quality of its productions and for the quality of talents in a new generation of Israeli filmmakers.  In the past few years, Israeli movies have won top awards at major film festivals.

Directed by Ori Ravid starring Lior Asheknazi and Yuval Shevah, the film is about Eli, a 12-years-old.  His world is being turned upside down when his father, the City Architect of Herzelya, is charged with taking bribes.  It is a simple and typical Israeli movie, about a unique relationship in an average Israeli family.

The film, being screened for the first time in Hong Kong, was very well received by the audiences of 130, most of whom were Chinese.  Mr. Levy’s idea was to show this kind of art; this kind of beauty mainly to the Chinese people.  He believes that this is an opportunity to exchange knowledge and culture, and to strengthen the relationship between Hong Kong and Israeli people.

Dead Sea products exhibition

Consul General of the State of Israel in Hong Kong Mr. Amikam Levy organised a Dead Sea products exhibition on 29 October 2009.

The four participating companies were: Natural Sea Beauty, Premier by Dead Sea, Pure & Beautiful and SPA Cosmetics.

Mr. Levy said in his opening remarks, “The Dead Sea Exhibition has the same concept of at least three other events that we did in the past: the wine tasting in which we tried to promote Israeli wine in Hong Kong, the design exhibition and the Israeli food week that took place recently”.

“The idea is to use diplomacy in the service of economy.  The rule of diplomacy has played more emphasis on economic relations.  This is an area which we diplomats have had no problem in promoting with the range of unique advanced technology that Israel has to offer to the world.  For our Foreign Ministry this kind of event is considered in a very high priority level.  We are ready to spend a lot of energy to promote Israel products of all kinds.  If the trade between Israel and Hong Kong is qualified by US$4.6 billions we have a chance to make a change here by promoting products with a real need for the people in the continent.  The Consulate is trying to bring through these products - health, beauty and nature, as one can find in the Dead Sea,” said Mr. Levy.
